Oh, I'm sure I'll get through it :D
The thing I'm worried about is the animations xD
Hexicube 14 years ago
great! if its too hard I might be able to slowly put one together with incredible amounts of detail if you write the text for me
birjolaxew 14 years ago
Could be interesting... I'll try tomorrow!
Hexicube 14 years ago
you could make a flash file, its good practice for when you make your game
birjolaxew 14 years ago
I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I'm going to make a part in the thread for every game
Hexicube 14 years ago
you cant list anything as unspecific because of push and CDvZP :P
push only has blocks
CDvZP also uses blocks but has paths
birjolaxew 14 years ago
  I'll sure do that!
I'm on my iPhone right now, so sometime tomorrow
gamelover101 14 years ago
You could also link to tutos in the spoilers!
birjolaxew 14 years ago
I'll add objects that are JG2 specific in JG2, HP specific in HP, and so on.
Magic_X 14 years ago
Are you going to add stars and hedgehogs and stuff like that?
gamelover101 14 years ago
For the ones in common you should say RT/HP/JG2/ML or something like that.
birjolaxew 14 years ago
Well, I'll start of by doing Rolling Turtle, as it includes many features that's common in the level editors. Then I'll do the other games.
gamelover101 14 years ago
BTW, why is there only rt objects?
Ahroo 14 years ago
  yeah... :/
birjolaxew 14 years ago
Schmoyoho are great at auto-tuning viral videos xD
But this is going offtopic...
Ahroo 14 years ago
Yeah, I saw the Hide your kids thing... xP
birjolaxew 14 years ago
The dreaded auto-lock may not hit again! Barricade your windows! Lock your doors! Hide your kids! Hide your wifes!

[Edit]Damnit, now I listened to "The Tornado Song"... Guess I can't sleep anymore... GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
Ahroo 14 years ago
I have a feeling that this will share the fate of The BL Dictionary and Almanac... D:

Which I STILL don't know why they're locked down. :C
birjolaxew 14 years ago
I know, I know... It just seemed fitting xD

Why did I add this many new lines O.O
Ahroo 14 years ago
  Irony... this isn't a handbook, it's a handPAGE. xP
birjolaxew 14 years ago
I took a screenshot, and edited the buttons out. Were quite easy
gamelover101 14 years ago
But still, where'd you get the pics?
birjolaxew 14 years ago
Should be fixed. Thanks for letting me know (Even though I were fixing it already)

[Edit] Ninja'd[/Edit]
gamelover101 14 years ago

i think that would be useful to new level makers
gamelover101 14 years ago
Magnificent! But just to let you know, the last image is broken.

My goal with this "handbook" is to give a clear, and detailed overview of the level editors in each game. Happy level making!

Rolling Turtle
The Line ToolThe Line Tool
SPOILER
The line tool. The most important tool in the editor. It's used to draw the lines the levels are made of, and edit previously placed lines.
To create a new line, select the line tool. Then click once, to define the starting point of your line. Next time you click, you define the direction of the line.
The third time you click, you define how curved the line will be. Once you've done this, the line will turn white. This means that you're ready to end the line. If you want to add more segments, feel free to draw them on, but if you want to end the line, click on the line.
To edit an earlier placed segment, hold your cursor close to the ending point of the mentioned segment. Once you've positioned it properly, hit CTRL twice.

The Delete ToolThe Delete Tool
SPOILER
This tool does what is says. It lets you delete the objects or lines you've placed. If you choose this tool, you'll notice your cursor turning into a small red cross. If you click on an object or a line, it will be removed. If you hold and drag, you'll form a red square. If you release the cursor, any objects inside the square will be deleted.

The Move ToolThe Move Tool
SPOILER
The move tool simply moves objects. You're able to select multiple objects, the same way as the delete tool. A blue outline will show what objects are selected. Click and drag one of these objects to move them.

The Edit ToolThe Edit Tool
SPOILER
The edit tool is complex, compared to the other tools. It allows you to edit the attributes of the selected item, but the attributes change from object to object. A blue outline will show what objects are selected.

The GridThe Grid
SPOILER
You might have noticed the dark blue grid in the background of the editor. Every object you place, or line you draw will snap to this grid if it's turned on. This feature can be very good, and a great help, but sometimes you want to draw fine details. You can change the grid in two ways: You can either hit G to turn it completely off, even though I will not recommend this for longer periods of time. The second way is to edit the grid size. This will either decrease or increase the size of the grid, and make the objects/lines snap on to the smaller/bigger grid instead. The grid options are located in the lower left corner

The Info BubbleThe Info Bubble
SPOILER
The info bubble is simple. It's a small buble, that can be chosen to either be visible, or invisible (Using the edit tool). When the player touches the info bubble, a message will be displayed on the screen. This message can be edited in the info bubbles attributes.

The SwitchThe Switch
SPOILER
The switch itself is quite simple. It's an invisible circle, used to activate path's when the player touches them. There's no indication of where they are for the player. They are completely transparent in-game, and non-solid.

The BoulderThe Boulder
SPOILER
The boulder is an object, affected by gravity. It's exclusive to Rolling Turtle. Using the edit tool, you're able to choose the size of the boulder, and when it should start being affected by physics. This allows for great traps, or to have it freeze in the air. Path's can move boulders around too - as long as they aren't started yet.

The PathThe Path
SPOILER
The path is the most advanced object in the game. It's what's used to move objects or lines, and experimenting with it can lead to new gameplays. I could easily make a whole topic about path's, but I'll try to keep it short. If you want to select what objects/lines the path should move, use the edit tool and click on the path. Once you're in the path's attributes, click on the lines/objects and they will get the blue outline. You're able to choose when the objects/lines should start moving, by editing the "Start" option. You can choose when it should end, by editing the "Stop" option. Furthermore, you should click the small green "+" sign to add a new note. If you hit it multiple times, it will create more notes which you can then move around. These notes will define the path the objects should move along. Try things out, experiment, and you should be able to learn everything else that is to know about path's!

Please notice that I had to cut down on the length quite a lot, so most detail are removed.
