well i like action movies, and disctict 9 was not an action movie. It was more of 2 seconds action, have some dude talk for 10 minutes, show torture for 10 minutes, more talking, and then have some guy go to the village and do nothing for the next 20 minutes.
And then repeat.
I could predict the end from the start and the language was uncreative. Every other word was the f word.

Be the documentary thing ruined the movie, it made something that coud have been exiting into boring.

If you are able to get past the first hour of the movie, it turns good.
