America= Holiday is a special celebration of someone or something....

Then yes, theu are the same.

And holiday isn't a celebration... not in Poland...

Vacation= A period of days off of school/ work.
Holiday= a special celebration.
Holidays (Europe)= A period of days off of school/ work.
