  If you mean the capped number of bricks for the maximum combo, I'd say 10, because you can get this if you 'position' the ball well in some levels. You could then even get more than 10.

If you mean the capped number of the multiplier for the maximum combo, I'd say 5, because multiplying with 10 is too much, I think.

  That's a good idea, and isn't too hard to change, in fact it's easy. However, I want to stick at 1-5 bricks as it can be a lot harder for other players.

So combos capped at 5 or 10?

  I personally think the HP system would be the best. The more bricks you hit in one go, the higher the multiplier goes. For example:
1 brick = *1
3 Bricks = *2
6 bricks = *3
10 bricks = *4
15 bricks = *5

  AK, and also GIS, since you both have much more experience on the site more than I have, as well as with Brickbreaker games, do you reckon Combos should be capped at 10, as scores could get a little bit too silly.

Or capped at 5, maybe...

  I can't wait until this game is done! Brick breakers has been one of my favorite game genres besides platformers. I have tons of ideas for levels and items!

  To everyone playing this game:

There is no reason why you cannot play or create new levels for this game. Play the game as if it were on BL fully, and enjoy the levels! Have fun, I'm looking forward to any new content you can come up with before the newer version of the game is released.

  @Simon: Yes that's the one, Gecko and I were discussing on chat.

The game is almost ready for its first test on dropbox, which I'll link in the first post (different game).

  Early stages of the standalone game complete, just to let you guys know. Soon it will be available on Dropbox to test a default level, and the game engine.

  Tbh, provided everything runs smoothly, the raw game engine could be finished, without bugs, within a couple of days. Ofc, raw means only 1 colour brick, and no other features, just a game which can interpret Binary level data.

  Thanks for that Treazer. For now, I shall make the new game available on Dropbox. You can be a trusted member on this game based on your level creation and contributions - tester is too little IMO. :)

  That's great to hear! For making a BL suitable brick-breaking game, I suggest adding features like fully customizable bricks (regarding shape and size (and color for art levels)), many different and also customizable power-ups, different screen sizes etc.
I'd provide as much as customizability options as possible.

  Thanks guys! Right now, I'll start re-building a new game engine from the ground up. Level creation will be the same as before with the text editor on here until I make a proper Editor. :)

  well you can always use us to make the levels, and then once there's enough officials, post it onto a larger game hosting site like Kongregate, newgrounds, or armourgames.

  Well, there's not that much left of BL, but most of what is left are still good level creators so most likely BL would probably be a good first source of level designers either way.

  After another year's experience of Maths & Programming, I am willing to try yet again.

During this short period I will be assessing whether the game will be BL worthy or not, and this will depend on whether I feel the community will be able to get enough out of the Level Editor and Features I can propose to you, amongst other user suggestions.

Also, if you really want to test the old, AS2 version of the game, please PM me, rather than spam here.

Finally, I have decided that for now, BL probably isn't what it used to be for me. I don't currently have the drive to create more content for others that I used to have. Ofc, making the game for BL could well change that.

Hey everyone. (Long time no see... about 18 months)

Posting here to answer a few questions so that it's clear where this game is going, and so no question remains unanswered thanks to my inactivity (that's the aim anyway).

Why were you inactive?

I was inactive because I just finished my GCSE's (secondary school qualifications for those outside of the UK) and am studying for my A-Levels (college-level qualifications) in order to prepare to study Computer Science at university. The workload is harder, plus my social life is also changing so I'm finding little time to come here anymore.

Are you back?

Most likely no. I mean I'll come on now and again to see how things are getting on, but like I say, I'm quite busy at the moment.

So, Astro Breaker is just a dead game?

As you may remember me mentioning just before my inactivity, I was in the process of remaking the game using ActionScript 3.0. Astro Breaker can help me in terms of constructing a portfolio of my work in terms of progressing with Computer Science, and so I will continue to develop the remake - at least, that is my intention.

The remake will include a level editor and if it's all figured out, I will make the game BL Compatible. In terms of moderating levels, I'm sure a solution can be figured out down the line - maybe I will lead, maybe someone else will - we shall cross that bridge when we come to it.

Hope I've managed to clear everything up. Was great to come on here and see the progress that's been made, especially with the release of Simon's new game (Congrats). Best wishes to all. :)

Bricks can be any colour dependent on Level Data (in code, so you can't really visualise this).

Types of Brick are:
- Normal (with strength stated on brick when > 1)
- Bomb (destroys all 8 bricks around it)
- Railball Powerup (ball does not rebound off bricks)
- Speed[+/-] Powerup
