Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and St. Patrick's Day

Valentine's Day
Coolguy52 2 months ago
They are the same holiday in that case, just different names. They originally were for remembering the end of WWI, but later were adapted to pay respects to all veterans of war for the respective country. Tonight is a ‘festival’ that Americans don’t have, Bonfire Night.

There are of course things that Americans have that the British don’t. Thanksgiving for example, but also the more obvious Fourth of July celebrations to commemorate American Independence. You can imagine that’s not exactly worldwide - and of course not in the UK xD

Wow, that's something new that I've learned today. Thanks CG52. Your country must have different holidays than the U.S.
Coolguy52 2 months ago
Interesting. In the UK we have Armistice Day which is essentially the same.

It's already November 4th. Veteran's day will be next Monday, the 11th.

I guess it’s just a lot of calculations to make it work and many places you can mess up. I will say that if it was much bigger it would likely have taken a lot longer, and possibly I would have given up. I don’t give up very easily, and calculating that sort of expression is quite a procedural exercise so in a way it can be kind of relaxing.

Wow, incredible....that's correct. I did it on my graphing calculator too and that's the same number you got.

That took a while - and is just about the limit of what i can be bothered doing by hand:

I hope I copied all of my working correctly, as that took a bit...

I'm looking forward to eating lots of turkey and cornbread on Thanksgiving, and also the mashed potatoes and gravy.

@CG: you need to create it in Web GeoGebra, geometry/algebra quizzes/jigsaw-puzzles are supported. GeoGebra can create a game that doesn't exist in BL.

Is there @anyone who can handle geogebra script/.js?

But what shall we make.

Purely subtraction tends to be a bit simple for my liking in terms of a problem, so I challenged myself to do it without a calculator or paper.

You often post algebraic problems, but they're usually linear which can be solved by collecting like terms and dividing through to get a singular variable. I posted a couple of polynomial equations which are a bit more challenging (I would post other stuff, but you mentioned calculus wasn't your strong suit and a geometry question may be too wordy to be practical, though some of those questions can be quite nice).

I could post more difficult questions, but this is a game site, not a mathematics blog so I'm not sure there would be nearly enough interest. In any case I have one that is kind of interesting.

Evaluate the closed formula for the following finite sum: 1+2+3+...n.

That's a question that shouldn't be too annoying, it's more interesting to see the method, because I know what I might try but others are different.

Formula to find:

That's right, I used my calculator app on the laptop and 7,710 is right. Mathematics is so cool. There's so many numbers and advanced terms you can create with your mind/imagination. I may end up taking another math course in the future. We'll see. And there's so many math problems you can make and test certain people. It's unbelieveable in this case.

  20,760-12,310-740=7,710

Here's how I did it (in my head but I've written down my thoughts).
