I was totally unaware of the complexity and the overall impact on other games. Forgive my ignorance. I just thought it would help things out but if we can't then we just have to live with it and move on. Second best solution in my mind is what Jos suggests. I cannot ignore the category but from now on i will give a bit less weight on the overall rating thus not seriously affecting the outcome. Hope Oldmanrob agrees with it.
You also have to understand the same API is used in the other games, which do not have categorys. Adding here voting for difficulty would force us to use it in other games too.
Ok., I am convinced that the place under the rating maybe can be used to give a vote for another category, although you also can write it down in the level comments (what I do and yes,... it doesn't always have an effect). But I stick to it that the category can have only a very little influence to your rating.
All in I can understand your point.
This has been a long debate Elizea and we ve echanged some msgs ourselves for that. I would have to agree with oldmanrob (although i am trying hard to follow your instructions). One main factor of the rating has to be the Level. And let me explain myself... What if the first official level was called Hard? There is no originality nor fun in this level. However, because it is a kids level you definitely categorize it as original (in that it introduces basic steps and it is surely fun for the intended target group ---kids). Same applies to easy levels and so on. The fact that you may change the level category yourself is a huge deal as players may also change their rating (like oldmanrob) and bring the balance to both the game and the players. I still believe players should also be able to vote for the category themselves (like rating) which will bring more balance to it. In any case we are all having fun and it is productive for the game to exchange ideas to improve it. No matter HOW we vote i believe we are all grateful to ALL the designers who spend considerable time and effort to give us fun and pleasure... In that sense they all get 5/5 if you ask me. Thnx
First my apoligize to dingding22. Sorry, go on creating levels, 'cause it's that what we need. I will play each of them. With more or less pleasure. Second I removed my comment before Elizeas "I dont like to see..." and dingding22 answer as I regret my rudeness. Third the category is for me a criterion for my vote, beside originality and fun. After the changement of category also my vote has therefor changed from 1/5 to 3/5.
Do NOT rate level down because of wrong category. It might not be designers fault, and he/she should not be punished for this. I don't like to see all those 'Hard???? 1/5!' messages on levels. Rate level by it's originality and how fun it is, not because of wrong category.
i find it funny JP called the levels unplayed, rather then unsolved (just a tad ironic ironic when ur working on a level for days, you want to be like oh ive 'played' it alright)
@chris1: You're not alone. I have 20 unplayed levels right now. I've given them all 5 stars, because it's satisfying when you don't understand anything of it! So there's one more thing we have to do: TRY HARDER!
[elizea edit] edited your post a bit, remember that there are children here too =)
What is wrong with blockoban level navigation? It keeps getting stuck and refusing to load the next level until I reload the entire page. I havent played in quite a while, but it used to work perfectly.
sound on / off added (burfy's feedback).
16 official levels now. All levels are great. I must say I'm a big fan of Psychotronic's levels (thx Psycho). When a level is "only" accepted, it doesn't mean it will not be official one day, it's just I'm not sure for now.
most kids dont registr.. duh
