@oldmtnguy Sorry I think my idea was misunderstood. I know exactly the delema your talking about and honestly if a level is solvable players should have access to solve it, but right now the only easy access is to make it accepted. I understand how much work you put in for all these levels to be available to us, and thank you.

I was not saying that other people should be able to edit levels I was saying I think SINCE there are no more official levels we need a new category. Honestly I think everyone knows not all levels are created equally so I was saying we need some way to allow people to refine levels while other people can solve them and if a level is really good it needs "acknowledgement". This is also really important to me since I have limited time to play but I really don't want to miss out on the levels that are REALLY REALLY good because there are a lot of meh levels. But I know as it is its unfair to say dont accept the meh levels cause there are plenty of people who want to solve levels I consider too easy and often tedious. For example I think we would both agree that Murat and Toughman are on a whole different level when it comes to level creating but niether of them have an "official" level. Is this because they are poor designers? No it's because JP decided no more official levels because he doesn't want to scare off new players, which while completely reasonable leaves us the now much larger community in a jam. I know it would be work for JP but I think this is why a new category between accepted and official, Acknowledged is necessary. I hope I made my point more clear. My idea has nothing at all to do with trusted members and I know where you are coming from on that, why on earth would people want to be a trusted member anyway? I guess I am but I have never had to use the powers I suppose. Anyway thanks and sorry for being lengthy.

I believe we've reached 100 pages of levels.

I tend to agree with Simon, OMG and LMR guys. I have never used the TM (apart from my nickname) privilege. I do agree you jasper that when you edit you almost always get new ideas. I have to point however that this is exactly the reason why TMs should be limited. Not to cause chaos by re-editing multiple times a certain level. I'd rather have them improve their ideas on NEW and fresh levels. Because of the series of latest uploads and the variety (some of them are quite tedious if you ask me) one should feel very comfortable and happy with a level to upload it after finishing it quite a few times (like LMR has very correctly pointed out). Just imagine myself going back to my first levels and reedit them just because i found sth new, what chaos I would cause to admins having to reset the scores (cause I cant reset them myself and frankly I dont want to) as if they dont have enough things to worry about (and it only just me, right).

To sum it up it is always better to count on the responsibility of all designers to work hard on their levels and make them challenging, fun, unique before uploading rather than give them the right to re-edit after. I feel for OMG and all other admins who really have to work on hundreds of levels every day. Nice job buddy.

Please try reading my response before you go off again. I did not say someone else would edit your level. I said we could discuss the options like making it purple. To avoid the problem try not to upload before you are finished or satisfied. That's part of being trusted.
SimonM 12 years ago
Omg can make it purple then.
jasperpostema 12 years ago
But isn't it better if the creator does it hisself. Always when I need to edit I get more and more idea's
oldmtnguy 12 years ago
If you for anyone else ever feel the need to edit an accepted level you can PM me and we will discuss it. Other than that please re-read LMR's last post.

Sometimes I really need to change my accepted lvls
oldmtnguy 12 years ago
Thanks Simon. The only real reason to use trusted powers is if you made a mistake in your design or other players feel that the level is in the wrong category. And if designers do their job correctly then being trusted is not needed. Being a trusted member is not an award and was created only to try to help administrators with small edits. So to all of you please don't try to make this into a bigger deal than it is.
The only reason I mentioned trusted members being added was to give category pack designers access for editing. But jp really likes the idea of category packs and will add a link on the game page for them when they are created.

@Jyxz Opening any level to multiple random editing would only cause chaos because two players could switch it back and forth multiple times due to personal preference. That is why we have a limited number of administrators and a to be edited category. I realize all levels are not for all players, and there are many levels that I prefer not to spend extra time on. We do however, need to keep the variety there for all the players. If you or anyone else ever feels the levels should not be accepted please feel free to PM me and I would be more than happy to work out a solution because this site does along to all of us.

  Maybe others do?
SimonM 12 years ago
I agree lmr, I actually never used my trusted powers.
Jyxz 12 years ago
@Ferrari Yeah I agree lol it just doesnt matter where you put it right, cause if you make it below it pushes accepted into that position or what not... it would probably be easier to make accepted what i wanted for acknowledged then a new category about it.
CamoDragoon 12 years ago
@Ferrari that would be neat too but this would all just get complicated at that point. :P

@lmr you have a point, but sometimes I run into the problem of where my own capabilities for solving blur the lines between how hard I think a level is and how hard it actually is...so sometimes experience can be deceiving. :)

Most of them want to be trusted members I think just as a personal achievement, as a way to show that they're "good enough" at Blockoban to be trusted.

I thought kids and easy were the other way round.

In my opinion, we don't need a new category of levels between "accepted" and "to be edited". I think there's no need for it. What I think would be much better is to have category between "official" and "accepted".
lmr 12 years ago
Once again I will state( as I did about 3 or 4 months ago) When I create a level, I get an idea, create it, test it, tweek it, test it,thumbnail, local save, retest, solve. Solve again, upload. After I upload i play my level through my page. Thus the administrators know that it is a level that is playable, solvable and has a number of moves from which to optimize.
My point is you should all stop whining and going on about becoming TM's. If you created levels correctly in the first place you wouldn't need to edit them afterwards!!!!!!! By the time one is able to create levels, you should have enough experience to set the difficulty level. Based on similar levels.
Think about it!!!
By the way I really don't like the recent plethora of copy-cat levels.
Look at Pa's level #10668 'Tribute to new award' That is only one I remember the name of the original, as an example of what I am talking about.
CamoDragoon 12 years ago
I get it, sort of a community editing box.

I think that might not work though, seeing as people often will disagree about categories, etc.
But it's a good idea :)
Jyxz 12 years ago
Well I'm saying that if a level needs editing it just needs to be left in acknowledged then once its ship shape its moved to accepted, its not a question of being able to edit its a question of needing to, and once a level is accepted you shouldn't have to etc. etc.
CamoDragoon 12 years ago
@chris I've never believed in the big maps category because it doesn't tell you how difficult a level is, it just tells you it's a big level. Duh. :P

@Jyxz maybe call it "Optimization" rather than acknowledged? :P
Yes, that might be a good idea, I too prefer the fun and challenge of solving those concise, tricky levels, rather than the challenge of cutting down as much as possible on my move count.

Although I disagree with the edit....it shouldn't be ANYONE, even if they were editable, and I think trusted members are a good idea for just making life easier for OMG. :)
chris3000 12 years ago
Should there be a big maps category like in BB2?
SimonM 12 years ago
I agree on first part, not on the edit part.
edit: I think there should be a 250th official level, because it's a more round and less scaring number.
Jyxz 12 years ago
I think since there are going to be no more official levels we really need a new level category: Acknowledged: meaning that a level is solvable and fun to optimize but not quite original enough to be accepted. I have always found the most fun in levels that have around 5-8 targets but are so hard they take me hours to solve... then there are levels that present no challenge at all and certainly no original challenge, but I know they are great for the more active players who love to optimize, however I find with so many of them the levels that have a lot of time and genius thrown into them tend to get lost in the clutter. I dunno if what I'm saying make sense but I'm just trying to start the discussion, I'll add more thoughts later.

Edit: Anyone should be able to edit acknowledged levels until are refined enough to be accepted... then accepted levels I think shouldn't be allowed to be edited at all, trusted or not.

Elevator (BLockoban), Sory admins, I forgot to write UNF. Now it's really done...
oldmtnguy 12 years ago
Hey Jyxz it's good to have you back you have been missed. Hope you realize that if you hadn't been gone for so long it wouldn't be so hard to catch up.
Jyxz 12 years ago
So on a lighter note... I solved over 100 blockoban levels today, around 200 if you count the ones from after midnight last night. =)

So I was trying to make it to <1000 levels unsolved, while oldmtnguy was accepting new levels! I had to work hard to solve faster then he could accept them. =)

16 official levels now. All levels are great. I must say I'm a big fan of Psychotronic's levels (thx Psycho). When a level is "only" accepted, it doesn't mean it will not be official one day, it's just I'm not sure for now.
